Tom and Takara’s outdoor humanist wedding ceremony was in deepest Norfolk, England. But they live in Australia. They had a romantic elopement in Australia earlier in the year – after all, Australia is their home.
They chose a humanist ceremony because it resonated with their values.
Whilst Tom was in the UK in 2020, along came Covid and a long separation. In November 2022, Tom returned to Australia to reunite with his beloved Takara. Nothing had changed – they picked up where they had left off. Love wins!

They met whilst working in Thailand. They share a love of water, oceans, forests, lakes, trees, nature. They fell deeply in love.
In July this year, we had a magnificent humanist celebration of their marriage at Tom’s family home, a farm on the Norfolk coast. Everyone pitched in. Tom’s mum Sarah is the hugely talented and popular florist that is English Peonies. Of course, she did ALL of the flowers and they were magnificent.
Tom’s brother Alistair played the couple in, walking through guests from the farmhouse to the ceremony site in the sunken garden. His other brother James was the ring-bearer. Takara’s brother Cooper and her sister Miarka chose readings. Cooper’s – until the last minute – was to have been a Shakespeare sonnet. But in the middle of the night he wrote his own and it was magnificent. We were falling over laughing.
We had a handfasting involving all the family members – a symbol of unity and togetherness – and then we partied like it was the last party on earth!
What a day. What a truly beautiful day.
