An Outdoor Humanist Wedding Cambridgeshire

August 4, 2025

beach wedding

A Humanist outdoor wedding ceremony for Kat and Beni, by the lakeside at Longstowe Hall in Cambridgeshire with the brilliant photographer Matt Tyler.

Kat and Beni contacted me in February whilst I was in Seville – would I be their humanist celebrant? You bet I would! Can I help them celebrate? You bet I can!

Micro-biologists who managed a long-term cross-continent relationship for a number of years finally made it to this magnificent setting at Longstowe for their wedding ceremony, accompanied by friends and family. The setting was picture-perfect beside Longstowe’s lake complete with swans and cygnets, and it was the hottest day of 2025. But we were cool. It is always interesting to compare outdoor wedding settings if you are planning your humanist wedding, so take a look at a woodland wedding here.

Kat and Beni were so relaxed, their families so proud.

This is the most intentional of couples – truly aware of their commitment and why they love one another. This was reflected in the words they read to one another about ‘why I love you’ – which is always so moving for parents to hear, especially when it is your very grown-up children who have done very adult things like lived apart whilst staying together, achieved Masters and Doctorate higher degrees, found a house, moved in, are independent and happy. As parents we can often feel bystanders in the lives of our children. So it is so humbling and beautiful to hear not just the what of love but the why of love as we watch them move on in their lives and commit themselves to one another.

The why of love is why we were there that day. It was simple and it was magnificent. The bride from USA, the groom from the UK, and their parents from The Netherlands, USA, China and the UK. A beautiful melding of intention and delivery. It was a privilege to be part of it.

Welcome!

A few weeks ago someone told me I should probably be thinking about retiring by now. I laughed so hard I nearly dropped my tea. If anything, this year has shown me the exact opposite — that the work I do stretches wider and matters more than ever. From the grandest...

Sustainable humanist wedding

Saturday's humanist wedding was a blast. it proved that a wonderful wedding doesn't have to have masses of bells, whistles, expensive shoes, big cars, expensive cakes, lots of bling. Instead, Simon and Nina's humanist wedding was gentle (at the beginning) rising to a...
